Freedom From Oil Campaign
PRESS RELEASE
Climate Change Activists Drop 20-Foot Banner to Protest Toyota's Eco Hypocrisy at NY Auto Show
For Immediate Release:
April 4, 2007
Freedom From Oil campaign challenges automakers to stop impeding environmental progress in the courts and fill America’s streets with fuel-efficient fleets WHAT: Freedom from Oil activists at the New York Auto Show just climbed 40 feet directly inside the New York Auto Show to unfurl a dramatic 20-foot banner challenging Toyota to become a true environmental leader. The banner subverts Toyota’s current Tundra advertising blitz with a picture of the truck driving over a globe with the tagline, “Toyota: The Truck That’s Changing the Climate.” The Freedom From Oil coalition is calling on Toyota to drop the Pavley Lawsuit and let Californians breathe cleaner air; stop lobby efforts against fuel-economy standards; and commit to record reductions of GHG emissions. The climber activists, who will be available by phone for interviews during the event, plan to stick by their message until the police remove them.WHEN: RIGHT NOW! Wed, April 4, 2007 WHERE: New York Auto Show, Jacob Javits Convention Center main entrance. 11th Ave between 35 & 36 Streets. New York City. WHO: Freedom from Oil campaign, a coalition of environmental and human rights advocates organized by Global Exchange, Rainforest Action Network, and Ruckus Society.
